This past weekend (10-11th August 2024), Mercia Distillery proudly hosted the highly anticipated Battle For Mercia event, and what an unforgettable experience it was! Under the blazing sun, visitors were treated to a vibrant celebration of history, strength, and craftsmanship.
A Glimpse into Viking Life
One of the highlights of the weekend was undoubtedly the incredible Viking village. This immersive experience transported visitors back in time, offering a fascinating glimpse into traditional Viking living. Craftsmen and women showcased their skills in everything from blacksmithing to weaving, while the authenticity of the village atmosphere captivated young and old alike. The Viking battles that followed were nothing short of epic, with warriors clashing in intense displays of strength and strategy. The crowd was left in awe as the past came to life before their very eyes.
Strength and Skill on Display
Adding to the weekend’s excitement was the strong men and women competitions. Participants tested their limits in a series of grueling challenges, each more intense than the last. The competition was fierce, with every lift, pull, and push met with roars of encouragement from the crowd. These incredible athletes demonstrated not only their physical prowess but also their determination and resilience, making for a truly gripping spectacle.
A Feast for the Senses
Beyond the historical reenactments and displays of strength, the Battle For Mercia also boasted a vast array of food, drink, and artisan crafts. Visitors indulged in delicious local delicacies (we want more burgers!), sipped on our refreshing beverages (including our Roxbe sparkling mead), and explored a marketplace filled with handcrafted goods. It was a celebration of the region’s rich heritage and the vibrant community that brings it to life.

As we reflect on the success of this year’s event, we can’t help but feel excited about next year. The Battle For Mercia has once again proven to be a highlight of the calendar, drawing together history enthusiasts, families, and thrill-seekers alike.
